About The Owls
• Kennesaw State comes into the week at 12-10 after sweeping William & Mary at Stillwell Stadium from March 20-21.
• The Kennesaw State University baseball program are in the midst of its 32nd season of varsity play in 2015.
• The Owls are in the midst of its 10th season in the Atlantic Sun Conference, joining the Division I ranks in 2006. Kennesaw State entered the season with an all-time record of 1,114-651-2 (.631) in 31 seasons.
• The Black and Gold entered the season with an all-time record of 265-231 (.534) in the A-Sun since joining the league in 2006.
• KSU won the school's first-ever Division I Championship in 2014, defeating Lipscomb in the title game
 
Coach Sansing ONE Away From Career Milestone
* Head coach Mike Sansing entered the season with 987-career wins, sitting 13 victories shy of 1,000.
• Sansing's coaching career began at Shorter from 1989-91, accumulating 102 wins in three seasons. His career record at Shorter finished at an impressive 102-55 (.650).
• Coach Sansing's clubhouse leadership carried over to Kennesaw State in 1992 and is now in his 24th season at the helm of the program in 2015. He has over 27 years of coaching experience through the NAIA ranks, Division II level and now Division I ranks at KSU.
• With the Owls' 12 wins this season, Sansing now sits only one shy of the career milestone.
* Coach Sansing's strong leadership in the clubhouse has not gone unnoticed, leading multiple players to Atlantic Sun Conference honors and beyond. Most recently, coach Sansing led Max Pentecost to the Johnny Bench Award and a First Team All-American selection in 2014.
• Speaking of success, coach Sansing and the Owls recently added to their trophy showcase at the Atlanta Sports Awards on March 5. KSU was honored as the Team of the Year, presented by PrimeSport.
• It didn't end there, former KSU All-American Max Pentecost was voted Collegiate Athlete of the Year, presented by AT&T.
 
Play Ball
• Kennesaw State returns to the diamond just two days after sweeping William & Mary at Stillwell Stadium. The Owls will play two midweek games against Georgia Southern and Georgia on Tuesday (March 24) and Wednesday (March 25), respectively.
• KSU will enter the week on a three-game winning streak, averaging 8.6 runs per game on 14 hits per game during the short stretch.
• The Owls will enter their two midweek games hitting .241 in four games throughout the week. KSU has totaled six doubles, one triple and two home runs in four games, going 1-3 in its midweek games thus far.
• The Owls' bats got hot last weekend, as the team batted .382 in three games –which is the highest average in a three-game stretch for KSU.
• In fact, Kennesaw State totaled 26 runs on 42 hits, which also marks the best three-game stretch offensively this season. The Owls bumped their team batting average up by 19 points last weekend, while compiling seven doubles, two home runs and a .500 slugging percentage.
•  KSU's offense proved to be a factor in Saturday's (march 21) doubleheader, as the team batted .439 going 36-for-82 at the plate. The Owls compiled four doubles, two home runs –including a grand slam by Kal Simmons—and 13 walks.
• 10 Owl batters recorded at least one hit on the day. Corey Greeson finished the day 5-for-8 with three RBI and four runs scored, while Kal Simmons (6-for-10, five RBI), Chris McGowan (4-for-8, five runs), Grant Williams (5-for-10, two RBI) and Taylor Allum (5-for-10, three runs) all helps Kennesaw State's big offensive day at the dish.
• The Owls outscored William and Mary 8-1 in the first two innings of play, continuing to dominate the early stages of a matchup. Kennesaw State is outscoring its opponents by a 34-14 margin throughout the first two frames.
• Kennesaw State held its opponents to two or less runs twice last weekend against the Tribe. The Owls are 6-1 when they hold their opponents under three runs.
• The Owls also scored twice in two of the three games against William and Mary, moving to 11-2 when plating the first run. In fact, KSU defeated William and Mary despite allowing the Tribe to plate the first run of the game, winning for the fist time when an opponent crosses home plate first this season.
• As a team, the Owls are batting .272 (206-for-757) with 40 doubles, three triples and 19 home runs on the season. KSU is slugging .408 and owns a on-base percentage of .351 in 22 games.
 
Scouting Georgia Southern
• Georgia Southern will come into Tuesday's midweek showdown with a 14-11 overall record, and holding a 6-3 record in Sun Belt play.
• The Eagles are coming off a doubleheader sweep against Arkansas State on Saturday, March 21. Georgia Southern defeated Arkansas State by a 3-2 final before taking the second game, 6-3.
• The Eagles an even 3-5 over their last eight games, averaging 4.1 runs per game while allowing 3.6 runs per game.
Rodney Hennon, who leads the Eagles into its first season in the Sun Belt Conference,  leads the program at the helm in his 16th season.
• Hennon has led a group that has won at least 30 games in all but one season and has posted 40 or more win three times.
• Coach Hennon led the Ealges to the 2014 Tallahassee Regional, where GSU defeated No. 5 seeded Florida State before losing to Kennesaw State.
 • In all, Hennon has guided the Eagles to six NCAA Regionals and 10 regular season conference titles including Southern Conference Tournament titles in 2009, 2011 and 2014.
• Kennesaw State is 9-7 all-time against Georgia Southern, including a 4-1 mark over its last five meetings.
• Logan Baldwin leads a group of Eagles with a .311 batting average on the year. He has compiled 19 hits, one double and four RBI on the season.
• Spencer Duffie has also made a difference in the lineup for GSU, batting .304 with 17 hits, five doubles and one home run in 16 starts.
• Byron Yelverton leads the rotation with a 0.87 ERA in seven appearances out of the bullpen. He has tossed 10.1 innings allowing just one earned run.
• Evan Challenger owns an impressive 1.02 ERA in six starts for the Eagles. He has worked a team-high 35.1 innings on the bump, striking out 27 batters and holding his opponents to a .190 average.
• LHP Josh Slate will get the call for the Eagles on Tuesday. He currently owns a 0-1 record with an ERA of 8.44 in five appearances.
 
Scouting Georgia
• Georgia will enter the week with two midweek games on its schedule. The Bulldogs will take on crosstown rival Mercer on Tuesday before turning around Wednesday to host Kennesaw State.
• The Bulldogs will enter the weekend with a 15-9 overall record and an even 3-3 record in the SEC.
• Kennesaw State will enter Wednesday's showdown with Georgia having a 7-10 all-time record against the SEC-foe.
• Kennesaw State has won the past two games against Georgia. Defeating the Bulldogs in two games by scores of 10-7 and 3-1 in 2014.
* Head coach Scott Stricklin enters his third season with the Bulldogs. The manager led Georgia back to the SEC Tournament for the first time in 2012 during his first season at the helm of the program.
* Prior to his time at Georgia, coach Stricklin spent nine seasons with the Kent State Golden Flashes, where he posted a 350-188 record, winning five Mid-American Conference regular season crowns and five MAC Tournament titles.
*  Stricklin guided the Golden Flashes to its finest season in school history in 2012 as the Golden Flashes posted a record 47 victories and their first trip to the College World Series.
• Stephen Wrenn has become a major factor in Georgia's lineup, batting a team-leading .326 (30-for-92) at the dish. Wrenn has compiled 30 hits, two doubles, two triples and three home runs on the season –adding up to 14 RBI. He also is leading the team with 13 stolen bases.
• Zack Bowers leads the team with six home runs entering the week. He is batting .263 on the season with seven doubles and one triple to add to his home runs.
• Left-handed pitcher Ryan Avidano will make the start for the Bulldogs on Wednesday. The lefty is 2-1 on the season with a 7.71 ERA in seven appearances on the year.
 
Greeson Named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week
Corey Greeson was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week on Monday (March 23) afternoon.
• It was Greeson's first career Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award.
• Greeson totaled eight hits with four doubles in a 3-1 week for KSU. The junior also recorded hits in every game including three multi-hit contests.
• Greeson finished the week with a .571 batting average and a .857 slugging percentage, totaling six runs and three RBI for the week.
• In all, Greeson is batting .324 with 11 hits, four doubles and two home runs. He also has eight RBI and 21 total bases for a team-leading .618 slugging percentage.
 
Hillyer's Awards
• Junior right-handed pitcher Jordan Hillyer also earned his first career Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week honors Monday (March 23) afternoon.
• Hillyer tossed a career-high 13 strikeouts against William and Mary in a 3-2 win on Friday night.
• He now leads the A-Sun in strikeouts this season with 46.
• Hillyer also was tabbed one of seven Louisville Slugger Player of the Week, honors.
• In all, Hillyer is an even 2-2 of the season with an ERA of 2.34 in 34.2 innings of work on the mound. He has logged 46 strikeouts to 22 walks while holding opponents to a .197 batting average.
 
Up Next
• Kennesaw State will take on USC Upstate to open its 2015 conference play. The Owls are a dominating 33-7 all-time against Upstate.
• The three-game set will be played at Stillwell Stadium, where the Owls are 8-5 at home this season.
• The series begins on March 27 at 6 p.m.
