Owls Offensive Lineman Goes One-on-One With KSUOwls.com

Editor's Note: With less than 200 days remaining until Kennesaw State kicks off its inaugural football season, KSUOwls.com is currently posting a weekly segment featuring members of the football team that will appear each Wednesday on KSUOwls.com. Julianne Pham recently sat down with offensive lineman Lorenzo Adger earlier this week for a one-on-one Q&A.

KENNESAW, Ga. — With spring practice starting next Monday (Mar. 2), Kennesaw State's inaugural football team is nearly one month away from it Black and Gold Spring Game scheduled for March 28 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The Owls will player their first game at East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn. on Sept. 3.

This week, freshman offensive lineman Lorenzo Adger takes a break before his tutoring session to sit down and chat with KSUOwls.com. A local student athlete from Douglasville, Ga., Adger is pursuing a degree in business management. He wants to learn how to operate a business and plans to eventually open his own business.

KSUOwls.com: How did you hear about KSU Football?

Lorenzo Adger: I heard about it from Coach (Tim) Glanton, the running backs coach here. He got a coaching job here my junior year and told us that he was leaving [my high school]. It hurt us all, but the next thing you know, I ended up getting a scholarship here. It's been nothing but great from here.

KSU: What made you decide to sign with KSU Football?

LA: Jae Bowen and Chandler Burks, two of my teammates from high school, came here as well as Coach Glanton, and I liked the rest of the coaches.

KSU: What did your friends and family think when you told them that you were going to come here?

LA: For the most part, they were behind me. They enjoyed [the school and program] as much as I did. They felt like it was home for me just like I felt like it was home for me, so they agreed with my decision.

KSU: What do you anticipate for both the team and yourself for the 2015 season?

LA: My expectation is to be a dominant starter that my team can depend on and trust to give good input and output for the team. As far as team expectations, go out there and win games.

KSU: How do you get game ready?

LA: In high school, I used to review film before the game and listen to soft music to calm my nerves, like Bach and Beethoven.

KSU: What do you enjoy most about KSU?

LA: I'm going to have to go with The Commons and the dorms (Austin Residence Complex). I'm a lineman, so I like to eat. The Commons is nationally ranked, so you can't beat its food. My favorite thing is when they have crab legs and steak. You can't beat the dorms here, either. You get your own bathroom and have a full kitchen as well as a washer and dryer, so you don't have to go anywhere. It's all there; it's convenient.

KSU: What is the funniest thing to have happened on the team so far?

LA: On my end, everything's been pretty serious for me, but once, I made a good block and actually did what I was coached to do. Coach (Grant) Chesnut jumped in the air and gave me a chest bump, so that was pretty funny.

KSU: Explain your favorite thing about game day.

LA: The people in the stands. If affects the game a lot because if we have people in the stands supporting us, I feel like everybody's behind us and we can then go out there and do what we need to do.

KSU: Does your number mean anything to you?

LA: Yes! I've had 72 starting in eighth grade all the way up to my freshman year in college.

KSU: What motivates you to do this every day?

LA: It's my dream to make it to the NFL. Besides that, my great grandma, before she passed away, believed in me and everything I did in my life, so I wake up every morning and strive for greatness for her and my mom.

KSU: What was the most memorable high school award that you received and how will that help you here?

LA: I was team captain three years in a row, which will allow me to lead here. Since we're a new program, we haven't really established any dominant leaders. It'll help me to step up in tough situations of adversity and say 'guys, we can do this'.

KSU: What was it like being named 2013 Class 4A Region 5A Lineman of the Year?

LA: It felt great, but I had to stay humble for the things that are ahead of me in life, like college football.

KSU: How do you define success?

LA: Giving it your all, no matter what the consequences are.

KSU: When you have a little bit of free time, what do you enjoy doing?

LA: Chilling with my roommates; nothing extreme, but just hanging out at the dorms and playing games.

KSU: What do you enjoy the most about the football facilities here?

LA: The weight room. I've been on a lot of college visits and I'd have to say that this is the most beautiful weight room I've ever seen.

KSU: Describe your experience here so far in five words.

LA: It's fun but not easy.

KSU: What kind of legacy are you determined to leave?

LA: I want to be remembered as a hard worker, team player and someone that people can always look up to.
