WBB: Owls, Governors Ready For Non-Conference Action Saturday

The Owls will look to improve on their 3-2 mark at home on ESPN3

A LOOK AT THE MATCHUP …
The Kennesaw State women's basketball program will return to action after having seven days off in preparation for a non-conference tilt against Austin Peay. The game will feature the 3-6 Owls and the 2-8 Governors at the KSU Convocation Center on ESPN3. Nathan McCreary (PxP) and Theresa Gernatt (Analyst) will be on the call.

SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY…
 -  The Owls will welcome Austin Peay on the campus of Kennesaw State on December 12 at the KSU Convocation Center.
-  The Governors are currently riding a seven-game losing skid, which extended in a loss to Western Kentucky last Saturday.
- However, Austin Peay has played in one of the toughest schedules this season, ranking 33rd toughest through Dec. 6.
- APSU finished 2014-15 with a 10-20 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the OVC, both were the best finishes since the 2010-11 season.
- The Govs are located in Clarksville, Tenn. and founded in 1927 with an enrollment of 10, 597.
- Austin Peay competes in the Ohio Valley Conference, and play in the Winfield Dunn Center (7,257 capacity).
- The Govs were reborn in 1970 and have compiled a 440-630 record since the 1976-77 season.
- The last NCAA tournament appearance was in 2010 for Austin Peay with a first round loss.
 
A LOOK AT THE GOVERNORS…
 - Austin Peay is led by guard Tiasha Gray, who is averaging 16.1 points per game and 4.8 assists.
- Gray within sight of several records, including the all-time OVC steals leader – currently 7th.
- Gray is first in APSU history in career steals with 259 and ranks 7th in the Govs' career points with 1,453.
- Guard Falon Baker is shooting close to 35 percent from beyond the arc and is averaging 8.0 points per game.
- Madison Rich is shooting over 80 percent from the free throw line this season.
- Overall, two newcomers joins the Governors – guards J'Nayah Hall and Keisha Gregory.
- Austin Peay lost just one starter from a season ago and returning four of its top five leading scorers from the 2014-15 season.
 
WIN WOULD…
- Snap the Owls two-game losing skid, and improve to 4-6 on the season. 
- Improve KSUs record at the KSU Convocation Center to 4-2 in front of the Owl faithful.
- Give the Owls their first win in December.
- Improve to 2-1 all-time against Austin Peay, dating back to the 2006-07 season.
 
OWL FACTS FROM THE THANKSGIVING CLASSIC…
- Coach Nitra Perry once again switched her starting lineup and plugged in Allison Johnson, who averaged 6.5 points per game in two starts.
- Johnson's 12 points against Western Carolina marked a career-high, giving the Owls now four players to record new career-high marks in a single game – others include: Aareon Smith, Iceis Walker, Tayler Smith and now Johnson.
- The Owls won two games in a row for the first time sinceJan.10-14 of 2015, with wins coming against USC Upstate and Northern Kentucky.
- Kennesaw State outscored its opponents by a +9.5 scoring margin over the Thanksgiving Classic weekend.
- The Owls pulled down 40.5 rebounds per game over the two-day stretch, a +7.0 margin against Western Carolina and New Orleans.
 
FUN FACTS…
- The Owls have made more free throws than their opponents in six of their nine games, and sport a 3-3 mark when that happens.
- KSU is shooting 67 percent from the charity stripe, making 105-of-156 from the free throw line.
- The Owls rank fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 3-point field goal percentage defense, holding their opponents to .285 percent from deep.
- KSU also ranks fourth in rebounding margin per game, pulling down 37.4 rebounds per game.
- In fact, the Owls are pulling down 25.9 defensive rebounds per game, which ranks third in the conference.
- Kelly Dulkoski's 20-point outburst against Mercer on Dec. 5 marked a career high for the guard, pouring in six 3-pointers in the game.
- In fact, it marked the second game Dulkoski totaled six 3-pointers with the first game coming against Presbyterian at home.
 - The Owls are 3-0 when holding their opponents to under 60 points.
- Clara Young came off the bench for the first time this season against Florida, totaling 11 of her 13 points in the second half.
- Young hit two 3-pointers in the second half against the Gators, marking the fourth consecutive game she has hit at least one 3-pointer.
- Iceis Walker earned her first start in her young Owls' career, pouring in a career-high 12 points and grabbed a career-best eight board in the loss to Florida.
-  Kennesaw State has outscored its opponents 81-59 in the first quarter at home this season, a +22 margin.
- In fact, the Owls hold a +11 margin at home in the fourth quarter, outscoring opponents 94-83 in the final 10 minutes of action.
 
BRINGING ENERGY OFF THE BENCH!…
-Freshman forward Tayler Smith dropped a calm 17 points against the Rattlers last Tuesday in 21 minutes off the bench.
- The 17 points marked a career-high for the freshman, which included seven straight points in the first quarter.
- On the year, Smith is averaging 10.5 points per game and 2.0 rebounds. The freshman is 7-of-11 from the field and is shooting 63.6 percent from the field.
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE!…
-Senior Jasmine McAllister was selected a Preseason A-Sun All-Conference member.
- Over her last three games, McAllister has averaged 11.7 points per game and 14.3 rebounds, and has totaled a double-double in each of her last three contests.
- In fact, McAllister has pulled down 15 rebounds over her last two contests and added an 11 rebound game against Florida A&M.
- In all, McAllister has four double-doubles in the Owls' first seven games.
 
KSU WOMEN BASKETBALL FACTS…
- Kennesaw State will enter its 34th season of competition, as the first year of play was the 1982-83 season.
- The first year of competition in the Division I era was in 2005-06.
- The Owls' all-time NCAA record is 335-280 (.544) in 21 seasons.
- Kennesaw State holds a 204-143 (.588) record at the NAIA level.
