Game NotesSocial Media: Twitter | Facebook Scenarios for the WeekendKennesaw State will go into the final weekend of the regular season at North Florida and Jacksonville with a lot at stake from a seeding stand point going into the A-Sun Tournament.
The Owls currently are 8-4 in conference play and one game behind second place FGCU. If KSU sweeps the weekend and Gulf Coast loses a match, then the Owls would be the two seed.
Kenensaw State is also one game ahead of Jacksonville. If the Owls go 1-1 and defeat Jacksonville, then they will be the three seed. If Kennesaw State loses to Jacksonville, then they would be the four seed, unless Upstate beats JU and KSU beats UNF on Friday.
In the first meeting, the Owls lost to Jacksonville and beat North Florida.
Kennesaw State Team Notes• By beating Stetson on Friday, KSU clinched a birth in the A-Sun tournament for the first time since 2013. The tournament will be held in Nashville, Tennessee at Lipscomb.
• By sweeping Stetson and FGCU, the Owls final record at home was 9-3. That's the second most wins an Owls volleyball team has ever had at home. The most was 10 in 2013.
• Since Kennesaw State lost both matches on the weekend of October 9-10, the team has caught fire going 6-1 in their seven matches. The only loss came in a tight five-set match against Lipscomb.
• In the stretch the Owls have won six of their last seven, three of those were on the road. The longest road-winning streak any team has ever had is four and that has happened four times.
• Freshman outside hitter
Sydni Shelton won freshman of the week for a fourth time after a weekend she finished with 30 kills hitting .388. She hit .500 against Stetson and finished with 12 kills. She followed that finishing with 18 kills hitting .300 against FGCU. Shelton has won the most weekly awards than any other freshman in the A-Sun with four and has won a Player of the Week award.
• Shelton wasn't alone in winning a weekly award this week as
Anaiah Boyer was named Defensive Player of the Week. Against FGCU, Boyer led the team with 19 kills and had seven blocks in the match. It was Boyer's first career Defensive Player of the Week award.
• Kennesaw State currently leads the A-Sun in opponents hitting percentage at .163. A big part of leading the A-Sun in opponent hitting percentage is being second in the league in blocks averaging 2.16 blocks per set.
• There are only five players across the conference that have been averaging at least one block per set in conference play and the Owls have three of them.
Rachel Taylor is averaging 1.18 blocks per set,
Liesl Engelbrecht averages 1.05 blocks per set and
Amariah Boyer averages 1.00 blocks per set.
•
Anaiah Boyer leads the Owls with 261 kills this season. She has had double-digit kills in every conference match except for two so far this season. Shelton is right behind Boyer with 254 kills on the season.
Next UpKennesaw State will travel to Lipscomb for the A-Sun Tournament held from November 19-21.
