ELON, N.C. –
The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team lost its opening game of the 2015 season against the Elon Phoenix 24-8 in Rhodes Stadium.

"We are going to have to take what we can learn from today and move forward," head coach Kristina Llanes said. "Elon's attack did a very good job of finding the holes in our defense and capitalizing on them."

Sydney Farwick led the team with four goals and also won two draw controls.

Samantha Farwick scored a goal in her return to the field on a free position shot. She also had two assists.

"It is evident that Sydney and Sam work fantastic together and feed off each others energy," Llanes added. "We will continue to build off the progress they made today.

Elon grabbed a lead early and Sydney Farwick scored the first goal of the year for the Owls to make the score 5-1.

She added two more goals in the first half as the lead at halftime was 12-5 in favor of Elon.

In the second half, Haley O'Donoghue and Allie Wright each scored a goal. It was Wright's first career goal in an Owls uniform.

Elaine Bradley got her first career start in goal and made 10 saves. Allison Senft also saw action and made four saves.

Ten freshmen made their collegiate debuts with five of them starting for the Owls.

"We still have young players making big contributions and this game experience early in the season will pay dividends in the near future," Llanes said.

Next week, KSU will travel to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt on Saturday, February 7 at 2 p.m.
