HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Kennesaw State baseball team knocked 12 hits while picking up a strong pitching performance from lefty Travis Bergen as the Owls completed their fourth straight Atlantic Sun Conference series win with a 6-3 victory over Northern Kentucky.

The rain-delayed Saturday evening win gave the Owls their 15th consecutive tally in the win column and sets KSU up at 29-20 overall and 13-9 in the A-Sun.

Bergen propelled the Owls with his 3-hit, 6-strikeout performance from the mound, putting in six innings of work while earning his sixth win of the year from the hill.

The squads played scoreless baseball up until the top of the sixth as Jacob Bruce belted a double to right field to start things off. Bo Way then singled to send Bruce to third before Chris McGowan shot an RBI single through the infield to put the Owls up 1-0.

The Owls then broke the game open in the top of the seventh as Matt Bahnick got things going with a single with Chris Erwin laying down the sacrifice bunt to move Bahnick to second. Dylan Ivey then scored Bahnick before a single back up the middle from Kal Simmons brought home Ivey.

Bruce drew the walk to put two men on for the Owls with Max Pentecost extending his hit-streak to 30 games with a bases-clearing double to the left side, scoring two and setting the Owls up 5-0.

But NKU (14-33, 6-17) kept things interesting following a 30-minute rain delay, scoring one in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from Cole Bauml.

KSU got the run back in the top of the eighth, Brennan Morgan scoring after drawing the walk and getting sacrificed to second on the bunt from Bahnick. Erwin then picked up the RBI, sending home Morgan with the single to make it 6-1 Owls.

The Norse then scratched across two runs in the home half of the eighth, but KSU closer Justin McCalvin came out in the bottom of the ninth and slammed the door on NKU, earning his 11th save of the season.

Way had the big offensive day, going 3-for-5 with three base hits while Erwin and Bruce each picked up two hits during the outing. Bruce and Erwin both belted a double during the outing with Bruce scoring twice and Erwin scoring once as well as driving one in.

KSU will go for the series sweep over the Norse on Sunday, May 11, as the two teams wrap-up the three-game series at noon ET.
