MTRACK: Abdullah and Sedys Earn Atlantic Sun Track and Field Athlete of the Week Awards

Both Post Strong Performances at the Panther Icebreaker

A-Sun Release

KENNESAW, Ga. –
Kennesaw State's Bilal Abdullah and Martynas Sedys swept the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field weekly awards following their performances at the Panther Icebreaker the conference announced Wednesday.

"First off, it's very exciting to sweep the A-Sun Athlete of the Week awards," director of track and field and cross country coach Andy Eggerth said. "This is a testament to a great fall pre-season of getting after it. One of our goals as coaches is to help our athletes continually improve year after year. It's encouraging throughout the fall to see qualitative improvements and testing PR's, but it so much more rewarding to see those improvements actualized in competition. I'm happy for Bilal and Martynas to see their hard work continue to pay off in wins and records. This fall they've worked harder than they ever have in their lives and they've seen it pay off with school records and top NCAA marks."

Abdullah took home two first place and two second place finishes at the Panther Icebreaker. The junior ran a school record time of 7.99 in the 60m hurdles preliminary round which is currently the third fastest time in the NCAA so far this season. He finished second overall in the 60m hurdle finals finishing in 8.05 seconds. Abdullah won the 800m-dash crossing the line in a school record of 21.43. His time was a half a second better than that of the second place finisher in the race. The Snellville native was the third leg of the 4x400 team, which won the meet with a time of 3:17.55. Abdullah also went on to finish second in the high jump with a jump of 2.15 m (7'0.5") which tied for the third highest jump in the NCAA so far this season. This is his first career indoor track athlete of the week award.

Sedys won the weight throw at the Panther Icebreaker with a throw of 19.79 meters. The 19.79m broke the school record of 19.18m that Sedys set at the 2014 Atlantic Sun Indoor Track Championships. Sedys currently leads the Atlantic Sun in the weight throw by 6.46m and is ranked fifth in the NCAA as far as longest throws so far this season. The throw surpasses the longest throw in Atlantic Sun Indoor track history set by Joe Frye of Belmont in 2011. This is his first career indoor track field athlete of the week award.
