KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State freshman
Evan Holvoet paced the Owls on a dominant weekend at the Georgia Southern Invitational as the rookie took home the championship title in Flight C singles competition.
Alex Pena also took home a championship title in Flight E, going 4-0 with a game differential of plus-37 as he cruised to the first place finish
Along with Holvoet and Pena's four wins in singles action, Flight A saw #Alejandro Valencia go 2-2 on the weekend, giving the freshman a third place finish in the tournament's top flight.
In Flight B,
Jorge Wilton put up a second place performance with a 3-1 outing while teammate
Drew Wendel ended in fourth place, going .500 at 2-2.
Manuel Castellanos finished behind Holvoet in third place in Flight C, going 3-1 while
Matthew Johnson ended in third in Flight D at 2-2 with
Will George finishing in fourth with a similar result.
The doubles duo of Valencia and Castellanos finished in third place in Flight A with a 2-1 overall record while Pena and Holvoet continued their successful runs, taking first place in Flight B at 3-0.
"Evan showed real determination and toughness closing matches while under pressure situations," said KSU head coach
Eduardo Rincon. "We could've done a lot better in doubles, but we showed up unprepared to play on Sunday. In singles we need to do better closing matches and staying poised throughout the whole match and not just the beginning. I feel like mental errors prevented us from bringing home more titles. But overall, we're pleased with the fall and this weekend."
KSU wrapped up the fall and will be back in action on Jan. 18 at Georgia State to open up the spring season.
