JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kennesaw State soccer wrapped up non-conference play with its 3-2 loss to North Florida. Its four-game unbeaten streak was snapped with the defeat.
The Owls fought until the very end with their second goal coming in the final seconds of the match, courtesy of
Aaliyah McDiarmid. The freshman had a three-point night with the score and an assist.
Ava Bradford picked up the other goal for the Owls – her second of the year – and
Anabel Orozco continues her point streak with an assist as she's up to 12 on the season.
First Half
Both squads scored within the first 10 minutes of the half. KSU struck first in the fifth minute. McDiarmid won the ball in the Ospreys' defensive third. She dumped it off to Orozco who turned and found Bradford. The Texan shot it from outside the box and blew it past the UNF goalkeeper.
As quick as the Owls scored, the Ospreys responded. They got the ball to Allison Souers at the penalty spot. She turned and found Morgan Guillemette for the one-timer.
Second Half
The Ospreys took the lead early in the second half.
Charlee Bernal was able to save the initial shot, but Taylor Tamares was wide open at the far post and was able to score the second-chance look.
UNF doubled its lead in the 64
th minute. It was awarded a free kick just outside the box. The free kick shot hit the post, but the Ospreys were once again awarded for their hustle and scored off the rebound.
KSU remained competitive and cut the deficit in the final seconds of the match. The Owls were awarded a corner which Orozco took quickly. The senior sent the ball into the box and there was a scramble at the net.
Aubrey Diskin's shot was blocked but McDiarmid was in the right place at the right time and scored her first collegiate goal.
Up Next
The Black and Gold will have over a week off before their CUSA opener at Sam Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST on Saturday.
