Two Second-Half Goals Secure First Owls Win of the Season

KENNESAW, Ga. – Two second-half goals by seniors Lara Kennedy and Anabel Orozco propelled Kennesaw State women's soccer to a 2-0 win over Stetson in its home opener.

In addition to the clean sheet, the Owls allowed zero shots on target against the Hatters. It's the first time they didn't concede a shot on goal since their match against Alabama A&M back on Aug. 28, 2016.

Coach Chris Cahill's Remarks
"This is a great result to end our opening week and get back to even going into next week," Cahill said. "To come out of this brutal heat with two goals and no shots on our goal for a clean sheet is a testament to how hard this team has worked and is continuing to work to be ready for today. There were definitely moments that we didn't play our best soccer and we didn't expect that, but they did enough to make sure that we were successful defensively. Ultimately, it led us to two good goals. Again, these are just building blocks for us to get ready for next week and move towards two more important games."

First Half
It was a defensive battle to start the day as both squads only had one shot through the first hydration break. The Hatters came out of the pause with two corner kicks in a single minute, but the Owls were able to thwart any big chances from occurring.

Orozco closed the half with the first shot on target for either squad in the 44th minute.

Second Half
The Black and Gold broke the scoreless draw early in the second half. After they regained possession off a Stetson free kick, Ava Bradford caused chaos in the box. Kennedy found the ball amidst the scramble and sank it into the open net for her first collegiate goal.

KSU's defense clamped down even more in the final 30 minutes, giving the Stetson offense minimal opportunities.

The dagger came in the waning minutes. Julia Balchen received the ball on the right flank and dumped it off to Orozco. The senior took it into the box and blasted it far post for the 2-0 advantage.
