KENNESAW, Ga. – Macie Howes made history this evening, throwing out a base stealer to become the sole program leader in runners caught stealing at 36. A fifth-inning surge led Liberty to an 8-2 victory in the series opener.

Ava Brooke Strickland recorded the sole RBI for the Owls and Jenna Chase pitched 2.1 innings of shutout ball in relief.

How It Happened
History was made in the second at-bat. After Ella Fox led off the game with a single, the sophomore tested Howes and was gunned down.

The Owls had a chance to get on the board in the bottom of the second. They loaded the bases with two hit-by-pitches and a walk but ended the inning on a pop out.

The visitors took advantage and put up two runs. After the first two batters of the inning, the Lady Flames singled to break the tie then a sac fly made it 2-0. Another two runs the following inning extended LU's lead to four.

KSU cut the deficit in half in the fourth. Jojo Johnson got things started with a double down the line. After a walk and error loaded the bases, Strickland hit a grounder to the pitcher but Johnson beat the play to the plate. Alora Bevily brought home another run the next plate appearance.

Four more Liberty runs made it 8-2.
