KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State softball dropped game two of its series to UTEP, 5-1, at Bailey Park on Saturday afternoon.
Addison Smith drove in the sole run for the Owls while a late triple by
Macie Howes extended her on-base streak to 15 games.
How It Happened
UTEP started the game by loading the bases with one out. Despite the heavy traffic,
Taylor Daniel was able to retire the next two batters, allowing only one run off a sacrifice fly.
The game was quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning. With two runners on and two outs, Smith popped a seemingly innocuous ball in the air. Both the first and second baseman lost the ball in the sun, allowing it to drop in the infield.
Jojo Johnson dashed all the way from second to score.
Rylee Limberger followed suit from first but the throw from first base got there just in time and she was out at home.
The Miners retaliated the following frame. They once again loaded the bases with one out but this time, they cashed in runs. A Kenna Carranza double made it 3-1 then a single the following at-bat extended it to 5-1.
Notes from the Diamond
- With her triple in the sixth inning, Macie Howes extended her on-base streak to 15 games. It's her first career three bagger.
- Patience pays off and that's exactly the case with freshman Rylee Limberger. Over her last five games, she's walked five times.
