KENNESAW, Ga. – In a high-scoring affair, Kennesaw State softball took the final game of the three-game series over UTEP, 11-10. Every Owl reached base safely and six different players knocked in a runner.
Hannah Harvey and
Rylee Limberger led the way with two RBI each while
Macie Howes homered for the second time this series.
Taylor Daniel recorded the four-out save, the first of her career.
How It Happened
In her first at-bat of the game, Howes clobbered a ball over the left field wall for her eighth homer of the season.
After UTEP tied the contest, the Owls exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second.
Ava Brooke Strickland was patient at the plate and took the bases-loaded walk. Back-to-back singles from
Alora Bevily and Harvey extended the lead. A sharp grounder by
Ana Gore forced an error and cashed in two more runs before a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch made it 7-1.
Both teams once again scored in each part of the third inning, this time the Miners with the advantage. They scored twice compared to KSU's one run. The sole score was the result of a Harvey sacrifice fly.
Base knocks from Limberger and
Jojo Johnson gave the Owls a 10-4 lead heading into the top of the sixth. Here, UTEP experienced an outburst inning of its own. Three singles led to five runs and all of a sudden, the Owls' lead was cut down to one.
The Owls went scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, but Daniel was able to go three up, three down in the top of the seventh to seal the game.
