HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Kennesaw State women's tennis wrapped up its weekend road trip with its fourth-straight win and second shutout in as many matches, in a 4-0 defeat of Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon at Southern Miss Tennis Complex.
"This was a very good road trip," said KSU director of tennis
Matt Emery. "It's tough to ask for more than two shutouts on the road. I thought our level and mindset were really high all weekend. We are excited to get back and get ready for home matches next weekend."
After starting the season 0-3, the Owls have bounced back with consecutive 2-0 weeks on the road. KSU now has its first four-match winning streak since March 31-April 8, 2023.
Southern Miss briefly threatened in doubles with a win on court two and a tightly-contested match on three.
Ema Baraniakova and
Sofia Madrid responded to the Golden Eagles' doubles win with one of their own, 6-3 on court one.
Irene Serrano Maestre and
Maria Ivankovic were then able to hang on to win 7-6 on court three, securing the doubles point for the Owls.
KSU then made quick work of the match in singles with Ivankovic (6-2, 6-1), and both Ema (6-2, 6-3) and
Terezia Baraniakova (6-2, 6-3) winning in straight sets.

After playing six of its first seven matches on the road, KSU plays five of its next six at home and doesn't leave the state again until March 22. The Owls are back at home on March 8 versus Georgia State at 1 p.m.
