Persson Clinches Owls’ Win at Troy

TROY, Ala. — Kennesaw State women's tennis secured its first win of the season in a 4-2 defeat of Troy on Wednesday afternoon at Lunsford Tennis Complex.

"Wow, what a great college match," said KSU director of tennis Matt Emery. "This one came down to which team wanted it more, and we were very resilient and gritty when a lot of stuff didn't go our way. I'm really proud of how all the women responded today to beat a very good Troy team on the road. We will need that same fight and Owl heart on Friday against a good UAB team on the road."

KSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead with wins in doubles as well as on courts three and six. The Trojans rallied to a 3-2 match after winning in No. 1 and No. 5 singles.

Izabelle Persson clinched the match for the Owls with a win over Troy's Sama Hindawy on court four. Persson took set one 6-2 and bounced back from a 4-6 second set to win the match with a 6-4 third set.

Maria Ivankovic and Terezia Baraniakova recorded KSU's second and third points of the day with singles victories on courts three and six, respectively. Ivankovic defeated Alexia Zarate in straight sets (7-5, 6-3), while Baraniakova overcame Emilia Namyslo 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

KSU positioned itself well early with wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Ema Baraniakova and Sofia Madrid recorded their second doubles win in as many matches with a 6-1 decision on court one over Hindawy and Maria Guirguis. Persson and Rianna Coreisa then finished off doubles with a 7-5 win on court two over Zarate and Leena Metwally.
