BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Kennesaw State women's tennis earned the doubles point before falling in singles action in a 5-2 defeat to Indiana on Friday afternoon at the IU Tennis Center.
"Very, very tight one today," said KSU director of tennis
Matt Emery. "This one came down to just a few points at the end of the match, and I loved what we left out there on the court. I know the women are itching to get right back out there tomorrow against a strong DePaul team."
Izabelle Persson and
Laura Nadaska took their doubles match 6-4 over Indiana's Chase Boyer and Magdalena Swierczynska.
Owl freshmen
Maria Ivankovic and
Irene Serrano Maestre teamed up to secure KSU the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Nicole Teodosescu and Ameia Sorey of the Hoosiers.
The Owls' second point came as Serrano Maestre defeated IU's Swierczynska 6-2 in straight sets. This marked the first career collegiate singles match victory for the freshman from Illescas, Spain.
Down 3-2, KSU had a chance late with Ivankovic and Baraniakova battling in singles play. Ivankovic won set two of her match with the Hoosiers' Elisabeth Dunac, 7-5, before falling 7-5 in set three.
Baraniakova took set one from Sorey, 6-3, but came up short 7-6 and 7-5 in sets two and three, respectively.
