KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's soccer fall to Missouri State, 3-1, at Walens Family Field at Fifth Third Stadium.
Brenna Young tallied the lone goal for the Owls – her first since the 2022 season.
Coach Chris Cahill's Remarks:
"It was probably our best offensive effort of the year, we just weren't brave enough in the box to finish the game and conversely gave Missouri State a few cracks to take advantage and they did," Cahill said. "Credit to Missouri State, they showed why they made the NCAA tournament and find ways to solve the game. The challenge awaits us next week and we need to get it right and work on extending our season."
First Half
Both teams traded early looks. KSU received a corner in the first minute, and on the other end, Missouri State had a point-blank chance that
Sara Hill saved.
Alana Nesbit set up the goal in the 11
th minute. The Kennesaw native drew the corner and generated a shot. Her attempt was saved but Young was there for the rebound.
Missouri State equalized 12 minutes later. A Bear sent a longball into the box where Emma Shields found Julia Kirstensen for the goal.
It looked as though the match would be tied at half but the Bears found a last-second goal. Maggie O'Keefe one-timed a volley and blasted it past Hill.
Second Half
In the first 20 minutes, KSU and Missouri State had chances, but nothing broke through until the 61
st minute.
O'Keefe scored her second goal of the match. Reilly Heman sent a cross from the right flank and O'Keefe one-timed the shot for the goal.
Just a few minutes late the Owls had a chance to retaliate but came up short. There was calamity in the box but no one was able to get a good touch on the ball.
Anabel Orozco made a beautiful move to split the defense in the 85
th minute but her corresponding shot didn't have enough power to blow it by the Bears' goalkeeper.
