KENNESAW, Ga. – Behind a dominant performance from Emma Friedel and a clutch three-run homer by Lexie Shaver, the Kennesaw State Owls blanked the New Mexico State Aggies 4-0 at Bailey Park to even the weekend series.
Friedel was in command from start to finish, scattering just three hits over seven shutout innings while striking out six. For the second consecutive Saturday, the sophomore tossed a complete 4-0 shutout game.
How It Happened
The Owls scratched across the first run in the second inning with heads-up baserunning. Lexie Shaver reached on a single, swiped second, took third on a wild pitch, and came home on a throwing error by the catcher attempting to nab her at third.
KSU padded the lead in the sixth with a clutch swing from Shaver. After Ava Guzowski roped a leadoff double and Macie Howes beat out a bunt single, Shaver stepped in and delivered a no-doubt blast over the left-field wall for a three-run home run, giving the Owls all the insurance they'd need.
Defensively, Kennesaw State backed Emma Friedel with a flawless effort, playing clean behind her and recording an error-free game. With Shaver's three-run shot providing the cushion and the defense locking things down, the Owls sealed the 4-0 victory in commanding fashion.
