El Paso, Texas – The Kennesaw State Owls jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, pushing the Owls to a 4–0 victory over the UTEP Miners on Saturday night at Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
The Owls put pressure on the Miners from the start, plating runs in each of the first three innings, while keeping UTEP off the scoreboard behind a dominant performance in the circle.
How It Happened
Kennesaw State wasted no time getting on the board in the opening frame. Hannah Harvey doubled to right and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Ana Gore to give the Owls a 1–0 lead.
KSU tacked on another run in the second, taking advantage of a wild pitch after loading the bases with a single and two walks. Macie Howes crossed the plate to extend the Owls' lead to 2–0.
The momentum continued into the third inning. After back-to-back free passes and a sacrifice bunt, Macie Howes ripped an RBI double down the left field line to bring home Ava Guzowski and push the advantage to 3–0.
In the bottom of the third, Emma Friedel kept the momentum rolling with a dominant three-up, three-down inning, leaving them swinging.
The Owls surrendered their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth, but Ty Hardeman quickly erased the threat, firing one to home plate to cut down the runner and end the inning, sending KSU to the sixth.
Back-to-back singles in the sixth moved Hardeman to third. Jojo Johnson then delivered with an RBI single to left center, plating Hardeman and capping a 4–0 shutout victory for the Owls.
