LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Kennesaw State Owls (8-17, 0-3 CUSA) fell in five innings against No. 24 Liberty Lady Flames (20-4, 3-0 CUSA) on Sunday afternoon, allowing Liberty to secure a 13–0 win.

How It Happened

The Owls faced a quick three up and three out in the first inning.

Liberty's turn at bat began with a leadoff walk. A ground out and a strike out from Emma Friedel gives the lady Flames two out. A hit by pitch put runners on the corners, but the inning ended with a foul out to third base, keeping the game scoreless.

In the top of the second inning, the Lady Flames pitcher delivered a true three up, three down with three swinging strikeouts.

Liberty then got the first hit of the day with a single to right center. A two-run homer over the left fence opened the scoreboard, giving the Lady Flames a 2-0 lead. The inning ended with a groundout to second base leaving runners on first and second.

Macie Howes broke the ice for the Owls in the top of the third inning with a single past first base. Madison Miller followed with a bunt and reached on a throwing error, advancing Howes to third and putting runners on the corners. However, Miller left base early in an attempt to steal second. Liberty pitcher retired the next two Owl batters, leaving Howes on third.

Liberty went on a six-run scoring streak in the third inning. The Lady Flames began with a single down the left line, followed by an advance on the throw, putting runners on second and third and bringing in a run for a 3-0 lead. A groundout to second base advanced the Flames on base, bringing another Lady Flame home. Liberty scratched across another run on a wild pitch. A single to right field extended the score to 6-0. A passed ball followed by a throwing error added two more runs. The inning ended with a pop-up to second base, closing the inning with an 8-0 advantage for the Lady Flames.

In the top of the fourth inning, Hannah Harvey singled to shortstop, but the Owls couldn't capitalize. A strikeout and a foul out followed. Lexie Shaver reached on a fielder's choice, but Harvey was caught out at second base, leaving Shaver stranded.

Liberty extended their lead with back-to-back homers. A two-run homer over the right fence and a solo homerun stretched the lead to 11-0. A double to left center field sent two more runs across, pushing the lead to 13-0. The inning ended with a strikeout.

A strike out, pop-up to second base, and a line out to third base closed the game with a 13-0 run-rule victory for the Lady Flames.
