Huntsville, Texas – The Kennesaw State Owls (9-23, 0-8 CUSA) fell to Sam Houston (16-15, 5-3 CUSA) with a final score of 8-3 on Saturday afternoon. Despite the strong start and taking the lead twice, the Owls ultimately couldn't overcome the Bearkats' late-game surge.
How It Happened
The game started with a quiet first two innings for both teams. In the second inning, the Owls managed to get a runner on base with a single from Jojo Johnson but were unable to capitalize as the next two batters were retired.
The Owls broke through in the third inning when Madison Miller singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ty Hardeman. Lexie Shaver singled to center field, driving in Miller for the Owls' first run.
Sam Houston responded in the bottom of the third with a two RBI double, taking the lead 2-1.
In the fifth inning, Kennesaw State rallied with Macie Howes doubling to left center to leadoff, followed by singles from Miller and Hardeman. Shaver's single brought in Howes, and Ava Guzowski's single drove in Miller, putting the Owls ahead 3-2.
However, the Bearkats quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two unearned runs, making it 4-3.
Sam Houston sealed their victory in the sixth inning with a solo home run and three more runs, extending their lead to 8-3. The Owls were unable to convert their hits into runs in the later innings, ultimately falling short.
