Kennesaw, GA – The Kennesaw State Owls (9-21, CUSA 0-6) battled through a tense pitchers' duel against the Chattanooga Mocs (19-8, 0-0 SoCon), but came up just short in a 1-0 defeat. Emma Friedel delivered her best performance of the season, throwing a complete game through extra innings. She allowed just two hits, issued no walks, and recorded an impressive nine strikeouts.
How It Happened
Early innings saw both pitchers establish dominance, keeping batters at bay.
In the top of the second, Kennesaw State's Jojo Johnson drew a walk and advanced to second after Howes also walked, placing two runners on base. However, Chattanooga's defense managed to escape the threat, preventing the Owls from capitalizing.
Friedel was particularly sharp in the bottom of the fifth, retiring the side in order with three consecutive strikeouts, all swinging.
The game remained a defensive standoff until the top of the seventh. Ana Gore delivered a crucial single to second base, breaking up Chattanooga's no-hit bid and advancing into scoring position. Johnson then grounded out, moving Gore to second, but the Owls were unable to bring her home.
In the bottom of the eighth, with the tie-break rule in effect, the Mocs placed a runner on second. A series of plays advanced the runner to third, and a wild pitch allowed them to score the decisive run, securing a 1-0 victory for UTC.
