Kennesaw, GA – The Kennesaw State Owls (9-19, 0-5 CUSA) jumped to an early lead with back-to-back doubles, but a late surge in the final innings powered the FIU Panthers (21-8, 4-1 CUSA) to a 10-4 victory over the Owls.
How It Happened
The Owls wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. After Hannah Harvey led off with a double, Lexie Shaver's sacrifice bunt led to a throwing error, allowing Harvey to score. Kennesaw State continued the momentum with back-to-back RBI doubles from Ana Gore and Jojo Johnson, giving them a 3-0 lead after one inning.
FIU struggled to capitalize early, leaving runners on base in the first two innings. They finally broke through in the fourth when a two-out RBI single from pinch-hitter Burns put the Panthers on the board, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
In the fifth, FIU's offense came alive. The Panthers delivered a two-run double to tie the game, followed by a two-run homer over the left fence, giving the Panthers a 5-3 lead.
Kennesaw State responded in the bottom half with an RBI double from Gore to send Harvey across home plat, pulling the Owls within one.
FIU tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth to make it 8-4. The Panthers continued in the seventh by adding on two more runs, extending their lead to 10-4.
The Owls threatened in the final innings, but couldn't close the gap
