ATHENS, Ga. – Kennesaw State dropped the in-state contest 6-0 to No. 16 Georgia Sunday afternoon on the road at the Turner Soccer Complex.
"I think we gave them a little too much respect in the first half,"
Chris Cahill said. "We played not to make mistakes in the first half and Georgia is too good not to capitalize on that."
First Half
In the 37
th minute,
Charlee Bernal came up limping and was removed from the game after a save. Freshman
Aryana Rosenblum made her collegiate debut as she replaced the red shirt sophomore.
The Bulldogs nabbed back-to-back goals prior to the 30
th minute to go up 2-0.
KSU posed a threat with a ball in from
Naomi Moleka in the 22
nd minute. The ball was targeted to the right post but the defense for the Bulldogs negated the header from the Owls.
Rosenblum recorded a stellar save after Georgia fired a bullet near the crossbar, but the freshman leaped and sent it away with her right hand, recording her first career save.
In the 15
th minute, Georgia stung one in the back of the net from outside the box to take a 3-0 lead.
Second Half
Kennesaw State played much more organized in the second half as they allowed just two goals which came in the final nine minutes.
Rosenblum tallied three saves in each half while the Owl attack collected three more shots in the second half than the first half.
The Owls held out five starters due to injury coming into the ball game.
Spotlights
Symone Thomas made her first collegiate start along with
Brenna Young and
Addison Neel recording their first starts of the season.
Freshmen
Delaney Edwards,
Aryana Rosenblum,
Phoebe Scott and
Morgan Mahoney recorded their first minutes dawning the Black and Gold.
"This game will help us," Cahill said. "We got to put a lot of new players in and learn quite a bit about who we are."
Next Up:
The Owls will stay on the road as they battle former ASUN foe, North Florida Thursday Aug. 29 at 5 p.m. to close out a three game road stretch.
