KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls (13-29) brought out the brooms in game three versus the Knights (13-24) as they produced a 4-2 victory at Bailey Park Sunday afternoon.
The Black and Gold suffocated the Knights offense yet again, allowing just three runs over the series with two of those coming today. KSU also took the victory while just earning three hits, the only time that has occurred in the
Tripp MacKay era.
KSU rung the first bell as
Stella Henry took first base on a five pitch walk. She then swiped her 20
th stolen base of the year as she took second base. Shortly afterward,
Madison Miller put down a sacrifice bunt shifting Henry to third and opening the door for
Ava Guzowski. Guzowski reached on the fielder's choice while also scoring Henry with the throw going from first to home but not in time. It's the first time since March 30 in game three versus Jacksonville that the Owls scored in the first inning.
The Knights were quick with the response with solo runs posted in the second and third inning to take the 2-1 lead.
In the home half of the third, Henry struck again with a leadoff infield single. She took an advancement to second base on the play due to an error from the BU shortstop. Madison then sent Henry to third with a groundout to the shortstop. Once again, Guzowski manufactured the run with a grounder to first base to score Henry for the second time, evening the game at two. KSU was able to scrap two runs together on just one hit.
On the first pitch of the fourth inning,
Macie Howes engulfed one over the center field wall to regain the lead 3-2. It's her fifth home run of the year, two more homers than the next closest Owl. It also signified Howe's 10
th extra base hit on the season.
In the fifth inning, KSU tacked on more in an almost identical fashion as Henry reached yet again via the walk and ripped second base right away. After advancing to third due to a wild pitch, Henry was in prime position as Guzowski yet again, came to the plate. Guzowski lifted the third pitch into right field for a sacrifice fly to score Henry for the third time, all three times driven in by Guzowski. It lifted the Owls to a 4-2 lead.
Kyte would not surrender another run en route to a 4-2 victory for the Owls.
