KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls (10-18) collected their first three game winning streak after capturing a 5-3 win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (12-10) Wednesday night at Bailey Park.
Retaliation became the theme of the night for Kennesaw State as they tied or took the lead both times the Eagles scored a run.
Both sides showcased errors that opened the door for runs to be scored later in the inning. The first to strike were the Eagles in the third inning.
The answer came in the home half when the Owls scored one run to tie the game. The inning began with
Stella Henry reaching base via error by the first baseman. After a sacrifice bunt by
Madison Miller and a passed ball,
Ava Guzowski brought her in with a bloop single over the shortstop's head.
The next spike came in the fifth where the Golden Eagles transferred the lead back into their own hands scoring one run to go up 2-1.
A four-run fifth inning gave the Owls a 5-2 lead. The run began with a
Ty Hardeman bunt single and a walk to Henry. Thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Miller, both runners advanced into scoring position. That was followed up by a Guzowski sacrifice fly to center field, collecting her second RBI of the evening.
An Amerson-Fox walk set the stage for the biggest hit of the night from
Kiera Cooper. Cooper eviscerated a double into the right center gap, scoring two runs. It was her ninth double of the year, that tally leads the team. Howes then followed it up with a single.
Scoring the final run of the fifth inning was
Reese Evans. She singled to shortstop with no throw to first, scoring Cooper. As the run scored, Howes was caught in a rundown between third base and second base to end the inning.
The Owls stacked four of the eight base hits in the fifth inning.
Kenley Hilleary would come in and slam the door on the Golden Eagles winning 5-2.
