KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls secured the series win over the Hatters in a narrow 2-1 decision Sunday afternoon in Bailey Park.
Kennesaw State captured the series win in their first conference weekend, taking two of the three games from Stetson.
The game was dictated by early inning scores from both sides. The Hatters jumped out in front right away with a run scored in the first.
Although the Owls were scoreless in the first, they woke up the bats in the second.
The inning began with a
Macie Howes hit by pitch on the 2-2 count. Two pitches later,
Kiera Cooper singled to advance the pinch runner
Alex Russo to second.
Reese Evans walloped a single through the right side to bring Russo home to tie the game at 1-1.
With the bases loaded, Shumeyko was hit by a pitch that led to a 2-1 lead, scoring Cooper.
KSU then shut down the Hatters for five straight innings to close it out.
Emma Friedel was brilliant yet again as she set her career high in innings pitched with 5.1. She collected four punch outs and no earned runs.
Kenley Hilleary recorded her first save of the year, the second of her career.
It's the first game this year the Owls have won scoring two runs and the 12
th under
Tripp MacKay.
On Deck
One last mid-week game versus Tennessee Tech will close out a seven-game home stretch for the Owls on Wednesday night.
Admission is free to all Kennesaw State softball home games in 2024.
