In-State Throwdown Goes Owls Direction Wednesday Night

Story Links

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls (7-17) conjured up a comeback victory to snap their four-game skid Wednesday night with a 6-4 victory over the Mercer Bears (9-12) at Bailey Park.

Kennesaw State preserved a flawless home record versus the Bears moving to 17-0 all-time In Kennesaw.

KSU threw the first punch scoring one run in the bottom of the third. Stella Henry came around to score thanks to Kassidy Amerson-Fox as she singled to center field. Henry reached via the single to shortstop as she legged out the throw at first.

The Bears did not go away as they ripped the lead back with a three-run fourth inning to go up by two runs.

That's when Kennesaw State turned on the burners. In the fifth inning, KSU blasted five runs to secure a two-run lead. The inning all began with Henry reaching via the error to shortstop. Ava Guzowski then lined one up the middle to score Henry while advancing to third after the throwing error from center field.

After the pitching change, Amerson Fox saw a five-pitch walk. KSU continued to tack on more as Kiera Cooper doubled to dead center scoring Amerson-Fox and Guzowski. Afterward, Evans clobbered a double into the right center gap to bring Kiera Cooper around for a four-run inning.

In search of insurance runs, the Owls found one. Ty Hardeman singled through the left side to start the sixth inning and came around to score on an Amerson-Fox single to go up 6-4.

Guzowski and Amerson-Fox both ended the day with two base hits with three RBIs between them. Kiera Cooper also tallied two RBIs to surpass 50 career runs batted in.

Seven separate Owls recorded a hit tonight to stack up to nine total as a team.
