Road Loss for Owls at Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Kennesaw State couldn't overcome a 33.3% shooting performance in the second half, as the Owls dropped an 85-69 contest on the road at Austin Peay on Thursday night in Atlantic Sun Conference action from the FM Bank Arena.
 
STAT OF THE GAME: Austin Peay shot 48% from three-point range, hitting 13-of-27 from downtown. That included hitting 8-of-18 in the first half. KSU meanwhile was limited to just 8-of-25 for 32%.
 
THE FIRST HALF: The Governors sank six three-pointers in the first six minutes of the game, taking a 24-8 lead. Simeon Cottle sparked a 15-5 run to bring the Owls back into the game, with a Quincy Ademokoya layup making it a 29-23 contest at the 7:30 mark. The lead grew back to as high as 13 for the home team, before Cottle got the lucky bounce on a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer to bring KSU within single digits, 44-35.
 
THE SECOND HALF: KSU came out strong after halftime, with a three-pointer from RJ Johnson and a pair of free throws from Frankquon Sherman to make it a four-point game, 44-40 less than two minutes in. The two teams then traded baskets, leaving it still at a four-point margin when the Owls missed a dunk and were called for a technical foul afterwards. Austin Peay took advantage by scoring seven unanswered to go up 11 with 13:18 to play. The Owls would come no closer than eight the rest of the way. KSU's last chance came after an Ademokoya trey that made the score 67-58 with 7:33 on the clock. Austin Peay put the game away with a 9-0 run over the next 70 seconds for a 76-58 lead.
 
NOTES 
-Johnson paced the Owls with a career-high 17 points. Also in double-figures was Ademokoya with 14 and Cottle with 11.
-As a team, the Owls shot 41.4% (24-of-58) from the floor.
-KSU did win the rebound battle 34-33, and held a 30-20 edge on points in the paint.
 
NEXT TIME OUT: KSU will stay in the Volunteer State to take on Lipscomb in Nashville on Saturday at 5 p.m. in a game streamed live on ESPN+.
