Blue Jays Edge Out Owls in Pitcher's Duel

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Owls (2-2) fell short in Sunday's low scoring affair versus Creighton (3-1) to conclude their run in the Texas State Tournament.

Freshmen Leah Jannakos and Emma Freidel held the Big East foe to just two combined runs allowing only four hits and stranding eight runners. Jannakos made her season debut in the circle

getting four innings of work along with five strikeouts allowing just one run. Friedel appeared in relief for the second time in the tournament operating three innings and allowing just one run.

Kennesaw State leaves San Marcos, Texas 2-2 after falling to a former 2023 NCAA Regional team in Texas State and a Big East squad in Creighton. The pitching proved to be an anchor allowing just 1.75 runs per game.

The Breakdown
The Blue Jays struck first with a run tallied in the top of the second inning, but the Owls retaliated with a Ty Hardeman double in the bottom of the third.

The tie was broken in the top of the 7th with a bases loaded sacrifice fly making it 2-1 in favor of the Jays.

For the first time in the tournament, the Owls were the home team but were unable to push across any runs.

The top three of the order collected all three hits for Kennesaw State in Stella Henry, Hardeman and Kiera Cooper.

ON DECK
The Owls will open up the home season versus No. 2 Tennessee at Bailey Park on Valentines Day, Feb. 14.
