RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Behind big games from Simeon Cottle and freshman Adrian Wooley, Kennesaw State battled Cal Baptist to the final seconds, but a potential game-tying jumper was off the mark and CBU secured the rebound to hold on for an 88-84 victory over the Owls on Saturday afternoon in college men's basketball action from the CBU Events Center.

STAT OF THE GAME: Cal Baptist was awarded a total of 42 free throw attempts in the game, and connected on 35 of them (83.3%), while the Owls were almost perfect at the line but attempted 26 fewer (15-of-16 for 93.8%). Two Owls fouled out in the contest, while another two finished with four, and all four players were limited to 20 minutes or less due to their foul troubles.

THE FIRST HALF: As was evident in the final score, the first half was back and forth with nine lead changes. After CBU took its largest lead of the half at 29-24, Braedan Lue scored on a jumper while Ricardo Wright drained a trey to make it a 31-29 contest with 7:47 to play. After a CBU basket, Adrian Wooley scored eight of the next 10 points of the game to help KSU take a three-point edge, while Delaney Heard's trey at 1:34 made it a 42-36 contest in favor of the visitors. A three-point play and a three-pointer from the Lancers tied the game going into the break.

THE SECOND HALF: Cottle drained a pair of threes to open the second half to give the Owls a 50-45 lead with 17:52 to play. CBU answered with an 11-2 run to go up 56-52 with 14:43 on the clock. The Lancers would not trail again in the game, but KSU refused to go away, closing within three off a Ricardo Wright layup and trey with under five to play. Cottle then his eighth three-pointer with 1:23 to play to close with Owls within two at 84-82. Both teams scored on their next possession, leaving it a two-point game with 44 seconds left. KSU then forced a miss on the next possession, but Sherman's game-tying attempt would not fall, and the Owls were forced to foul.

POSTGAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH ANTOINE PETTWAY
"Love how hard our guys battled in a tough road game against an experienced and talented Cal Baptist team. There is a lot we can learn and build on. We competed and played the right way, we now got to a better job of defending without fouling and sending them to the line so much. We will earn from this experience and looking forward to playing in front of our home crowd on Wednesday. But so proud of how hard we fought and competed tonight, I love this group."
