COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Kennesaw State football fell to Tennessee Tech on Saturday evening by a score of 17-7 inside Tucker Stadium.

The KSU offense struck quick and scored on its first possession. The Owls moved the ball 74 yards on seven plays to mark the first time this season the team scored on its opening drive of a game. The offense received two big plays on third down, highlighted by a 27-yard catch from Isaac Foster and a 16-yard run from Jonathan Murphy.

The opening drive was capped by Gabriel Benyard, who caught a 29-yard touchdown pass that moved KSU ahead, 7-0. This marked the third consecutive game Benyard posted a touchdown reception, making him the third player in school history with a touchdown catch in three straight (Justin Sumpter, 2016 and Caleb O'Neal, 2021).

Kennesaw State's defense was strong in the first half, holding Tennessee Tech to 84 total yards. The Golden Eagles scored on a 50-yard field goal with 49 seconds remaining that pulled the score to 7-3 after two quarters of play.

Tennessee Tech received the ball to begin the third quarter. On its second play from scrimmage, the Golden Eagles attempted a halfback pass but a leaping interception from Markeith Montgomery secured KSU's first turnover of the evening. The pick was the 11th of Montgomery's career, adding to his program record.

TTU scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to earn a 17-7 victory.
