KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State baseball slashed 20 hits en route to its second consecutive run-rule victory over Jacksonville by a score of 16-5 on Sunday afternoon inside Stillwell Stadium. The win gives the Owls (22-20, 12-9 ASUN Conference) the series sweep over the Dolphins (25-18, 10-11 ASUN) with three weekends remaining in the regular season.
Braden Osbolt made his 11th start and tossed the first three innings of the game. The right-hander tallied five strikeouts and allowed four earned runs.
Luke Cooper (2-0) entered in relief and went 3.1 innings to earn the win. The southpaw allowed zero runs on two hits in the outing.
The Kennesaw State offense collected a season-high 20 hits on the afternoon to bring its weekend total to 42. For the first time this year, all nine starters recorded a base hit and a season-high seven players contributed multi-hit performances.
Spencer Hanson led the offense with a 4-for-5 day with five RBI. The designated hitter belted two home runs and has now blasted six long balls in his last seven games. He ended the weekend 8-for-12.
Donovan Cash added a 3-for-5 afternoon with two runs scored. The first baseman posted multi-hit performances in all three games this weekend and ended the series 7-for-12.
Nick Hassan drove in three runs on his birthday and produced a 3-for-5 day. The Owls' catcher drove in six runs on the weekend and scored two runs in the finale.
Hudson Mimbs, Jamarie Brooks and Wade Richardson each went for multiple hits at the bottom of the KSU lineup. The trio combined to go 6-for-13 with six RBI and three runs scored in the contest.
The Owls opened the game with seven runs in the first inning. The offense compiled seven hits with two going for extra bases. Hassan and Brooks each laced doubles in the frame that scored two and three runs, respectively. This marked the second time on the season that KSU scored seven-or-more runs in its first at-bat with the other being versus Georgia Southern (12, April 19).
The Dolphins collected four hits in the third inning, with one being a grand slam from Blake DeLamielleure. This cut the KSU advantage to 7-5.
The Owls answered in the bottom of the frame when Zac Corbin drew a two-out walk. Hanson then stepped into the box and drove the second pitch of his at-bat off the roof of the indoor facility in dead-center field. This was Hanson's second homer of the weekend and put Kennesaw State ahead 9-5.
KSU slashed three hits in the fifth to add one more run to its lead. A two-out single from Mimbs scored Hanson to push the score to 10-5.
The Owls tacked on six runs in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to 16-5. Hanson blasted his second home run of the day and a two-RBI single from Richardson highlighted the inning.
The pitching staff worked a scoreless seventh to seal the run-rule victory over the Dolphins.
Kennesaw State baseball is back in action Tuesday as the team travels to the University of Georgia for its midweek matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. inside Foley Field and will be broadcasted live on SEC Network +.
