KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State baseball fell to Clemson on Wednesday night at Stillwell Stadium by a score of 6-2. The loss drops KSU (8-11) to 0-3 in the all-time series with the Tigers (14-8).
Brayden Eidson entered in the second and tossed a season-high, six innings. The southpaw also set a career-high with six strikeouts and allowed only one earned run. At the plate, he finished 3-for-4 with a home run and was only a triple shy of the cycle.
Jackson Chirello collected his sixth career multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 evening. The freshman has now reached base safely in 10 of his last 11 games.
Other notables for the Owl offense included
Donovan Cash (1-for-4),
Nick Hassan (1-for-3) and
Zac Corbin (1-for-4, one run scored).
Chris Cole also finished 1-for-3 and collected an RBI with a sac fly in the third.
Clemson got on the board in the second with an RBI sac fly from Chad Fairey to pull ahead 1-0.
The Owls answered in the third when Eidson launched a solo shot to right that tied things up. The home run was the second of the year for the KSU utility player and was his first while also being in the game as the pitcher.
Kennesaw State took the lead in the fourth on a sac fly from Cole. Corbin singled to lead off the frame then advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Hudson Mimbs roped a ground ball to second to get him over before Cole brought him home and gave KSU a 2-1 lead.
The Tigers scored one run in the fifth to even the score after taking advantage of a KSU error. Clemson then scored four times in the eighth to take a 6-2 lead which held as the final.
Kennesaw State baseball is back in action this weekend as the team welcomes Eastern Kentucky for an ASUN Conference showdown. The three-game set begins on Friday night, with first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m. inside Stillwell Stadium
