TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Kennesaw State suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night, as the Owls could not solve Florida State's full-court pressure and fell 94-67 in men's college basketball action on Friday night at the Tucker Center. KSU dropped to 1-1 with the loss, while the Seminoles improved to 1-0.
STAT OF THE GAME: The Owls shot just 31.9% of 22-of-69 from the floor, and were held to four total three-point field goals out of 25 attempts (16.0%). FSU meanwhile shot 46.6%, including 50% in the first half, and knocked down 11 attempts from three-point range.
THE FIRST HALF: FSU played a full court defense the entire night, limiting the Owls from the start in their attempts to get their preferred fast paced offensive style on track. When KSU did get past the pressure, they were unable to knock down the shots to keep pace, connecting on just 13-of-40 shots in the opening 20 minutes. KSU never led in the game, and the last time the Owls were within a single possession was at 13-10 after back-to-back baskets from Terrell Burden and Simeon Cottle. A FSU trey then started a 9-2 spurt to push the edge back to 10 at 22-12. It was an eight-point contest when a 12-2 run, which featured three straight treys from the home team in a 30-second span, put the advantage back to 43-25, and KSU would go into halftime down 49-34.
THE SECOND HALF: Needing to come out with an offensive spark in the second half, KSU was limited to just two total field goals in the first 11 minutes. FSU meanwhile scored 24 of the first 28 points of the half to go ahead 73-38.
