Postgame Interview – Coach Schunzel | Manu Johnsen
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State ended its recent losing streak with authority on Tuesday night, taking just 80 minutes to claim a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-14, 25-21) over Queens in Atlantic Sun Conference volleyball action from the Convocation Center.
OWL OF THE GAME: Sophomore Manu Johnsen turned in a record-breaking night for the Owls, as she notched a season-high 22 kills in the victory. That set a new mark as the most kills ever by an Owl in a three-set match, breaking the previous record of 21, set twice in the 2010 season. That came off a total of 38 attacks, and she finished with a .474 hitting percentage for the game.
STAT OF THE GAME: The Owls finished with a season-high .376 hitting percentage (49K-14E-93TA) in the victory including a .593 (18K-2E-27TA) in the second set.
THE RUNDOWN – KSU jumped out to large leads in each of the first two sets, 14-7 in the first and 16-9 in the second on the way to a 2-0 lead. The Owls hit over .450 in both sets. KSU went up 17-10 in the third set, though the Royals would use a 4-0 run to close within 21-18. It was 23-21 in favor of KSU when Johnsen recorded her record-breaking kill, followed by an attack error from Queens that ended the contest.
NOTES
-This was KSU's first home sweep of the season, and second against Queens in as many games after last season's 3-0 victory in Charlotte.
-Claire Parsons also posted a strong offensive night with nine kills (.563 hitting percentage).
-McKinley Ferguson notched 40 assists in her return to the court after missing the previous two contests. Shelby Dennis added a team-high 18 digs in the win.
NEXT TIME OUT: KSU continues its three-game homestand on Friday, Oct. 13 with a 7 p.m. contest against North Alabama.
