KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse nearly rallied from a six-goal deficit, as a 4-0 second half run closed the Owls within two before Mercer scored the next three to wrap up an 18-14 win over KSU on Sunday afternoon from Fifth Third Bank Stadium. It was the first loss at home this season for the Owls, who dropped to 2-2 on the year while the Bears improved to 2-1 overall.

KEY PLAYERS: Siena Gore led the Owls with four goals and an assist for five points. Hannah Barth and Mia MacKenzie both added hat tricks as well on the afternoon.

THE RUNDOWN: Mercer held a commanding 40-21 edge on shots, including 12-6 in the first quarter as the Bears built a 5-3 edge. They added to the lead thanks to a 6-4 goal advantage in the second, taking an 11-7 edge into the break. After Mercer scored three of the next four to go up 14-8, Gore posted back-to-back goals to spark a 4-0 KSU run. Barth's third goal of the game capped the run to make it a 14-12 contest with 10:05 left in the fourth. Mercer then sealed the game by scoring the next three goals of the contest.

QUOTEABLE: "Obviously I think we had a few defensive misreads right out of the gate. They got a couple of easy goals in the first quarter, and then I think we turned it around defensively. We forced a couple of shot clock violations, which is really good. We won the draw control game and the ground ball game and that was one of our goals today, to win all the hustle plays. Mercer had a lead and they were able to maintain it, but we did a good job to fight back and close it to two." – KSU head coach Laura Maness

NOTES
-Chesslyn Lamar paced KSU with two assists.
-In goal, both Julia Weiss and Errin Crowe played a half each, and both recorded three saves while facing 20 shots.
-KSU finished with a 13-2 edge on ground balls and 19-17 on draw controls. The Owls were also a perfect 5-of-5 on free-position shots.
-Turnovers hurt KSU, as it committed 21 to 16 for the visitors.

NEXT TIME OUT: The Owls finish their four-game homestand on Wednesday, March 2, with a 3 p.m. contest against the Temple Owls at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
