GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kennesaw State women's lacrosse stayed within two goals of Florida as late as the second quarter, until the seventh-ranked Gators scored six straight to take control on the way to a 22-7 win over the Owls on Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams from Dizney Stadium.

KSU found itself down 2-0 just two minutes in and then at 3-0 with just over five minutes into the contest. Senior attacker Chesslyn Lamar put the Owls on the scoreboard at 7:56, and then added another at 5:24 to keep KSU within two at 4-2. Florida scored the final goal of the opening quarter for a 5-2 edge.

Midfielder Siena Gore notched her first goal of the season just 21 seconds into the second quarter, bringing KSU within 5-3. The Gators responded with the next six goals of the game for a 11-3 advantage on the way to a 12-4 edge. KSU was outscored 10-3 in the second half, as the Owls were outshot 16-7, including being limited to just two fourth quarter shots.

QUOTEABLE: "I thought we came out hard and played a good first quarter. I thought our draws unit did well, and our transition play was great. We identified things we need to work on before our next game and the team is ready to get home and get back to work" - Head Coach Laura Maness
