KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State University soccer team lost a tight contest in overtime of a conference clash against the Lipscomb Bisons Sunday afternoon at the Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
The Owls (5-7-0, 4-3-0 ASUN Conference) equalized late when freshman forward Tianna Rivera pushed up field and delivered a crucial pass in the final attacking third to sophomore midfielder Becky Contreras. Then, she assisted a magical Erin Harris goal. The senior scored one-on-one in the goalie box.Â
Overtime ended with an early Bisons (6-2-1, 5-0-1) golden goal from midfielder Cami Rogers in the 92nd minute.
Owls redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Pixton kept the Bisons from finding the back of the net with five crucial saves in a scoreless first half. She finished with nine.
KSU in the first half failed to capitalize on a few, but critical attacking positions early. Owls senior forward Erin Harris missed a header wide right on a beautifully crossed ball by senior forward Kameron Downs in the 23rd minute.
The Owls appeared to take the lead in the second half when redshirt-junior forward Kendall Higgs drilled the back of the net from a cross made by senior midfielder Kendall Baker, but was called off for offside.
The Bisons broke the scoreless contest when forward Rogers scored unassisted in the 71st minute.
The match featured many shots, including 18 by Lipscomb and 15 by KSU. Harris led the Owls with six shots and four of the team's five on goal.
The Owls finish regular season ASUN play on the road against the University of North Alabama April 3 at 2 p.m.
