LYNCHBURG, Va. – Kennesaw State earned its third consecutive win with a 1-0 triumph against Liberty University at Osborne Stadium Thursday afternoon. Kendall Hart scored the deciding goal in the 61st minute.
The Owls (5-6-0, 4-2-0 ASUN Conference) earned their third road win of the season and evened the season series with Liberty (3-3-5, 2-3-2 ASUN). The victory also solidified the Owls in second place in the conference division standings, with Northern Division leader Lipscomb awaiting Sunday.
"This was a huge win for us. The conditions were slick, which made for a tricky surface, but I thought our team's composure was as good as I've seen this year," said head coach Benji Walton.
Hart buzzed the scoreboard first on her free kick from the top of the box that zipped off the hands of Liberty goalie Melody Jayroe into the right side of the net. The Fullerton, Calif. native scored her second of the season at 60:11, which proved to be enough for a road victory.
On a soggy pitch, KSU stayed on the offensive. The Owls outshot the Lady Flames, 11-9, and were more accurate, 6-2, in shots on goal. Defensively, the Black and Gold totaled its fourth clean sheet of the spring thanks to two saves from the winning goalkeeper, Dylan Pixton.
Jayroe had five saves for Liberty, including four in the second half.
"Liberty is so well-organized. I'm just glad we were able to find a way," said Walton. "Hopefully this will continue to build more momentum for our group heading into the final games."
KSU returns to Fifth Third Bank Stadium for a Senior Day match Sunday at 1 p.m. against Lipscomb. For attendance information, click here.
