SCHUNZEL QUOTES
On the loss…
"When any team plays that inconsistently, you will get beat and we saw that play out with our group tonight. We simply never got into any real rhythm, particularly offensively. We played hesitant, tentative and full of self-doubt for way too long in that match and Lipscomb played freely and that's a recipe for what happened in that game. I'm proud we didn't fold after getting stomped in set two because we easily could have. Even playing that poorly we had chances to win the first and third sets. But every single player in our locker room knows that the level of ball we can play was not what was on that court tonight. 24 hours from now we have a chance to change that narrative."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams traded points to open the match until a quick 4-0 run gave the Bisons an 8-3 lead. KSU cut the lead to two, 9-7, following a block by Emma Schurfranz and Claire Parsons to cap off a 3-0 run. The Owls attempted to even the set, but Lipscomb had an answer each time eventually pushing its lead to 17-12. KSU pulled back into it late as a kill from Parsons ended a 5-1 swing to make it 19-18 in favor of Lipscomb. The teams continued to go point-for-point until a kill from Dani Ballou and a Bisons error knotted the set at 23. Lipscomb then proceeded to call a timeout, coming out of the break to record the next two points and take the opening set 25-23.

The Bisons utilized that momentum to jump out to a 7-1 lead in the second set. Lipscomb kept the pressure on building its lead to as high as 11 points, 18-7. The Bisons stampeded to a 25-13 victory as KSU hit -.033 in the set with 10 errors compared to one error for Lipscomb and a .286 hitting percentage.

The Owls seemed to settle down following the intermission taking an early 3-1 lead in the third set. KSU extended its lead to 7-3 following a kill and an ace from Lauren Chastang. The squads then proceeded to trade points as KSU maintained a slim lead throughout most of the set. The Owls finally started to pull away thanks to a 5-1 run capped off by back-to-back kills from Schurfranz to lead 20-15. After a 3-0 run by Lipscomb cut the deficit to two, the Owls regained their cushion with two straight points only to have it disappear once again following another 3-0 run by Lipscomb to make it a one-point set 22-21. Following a timeout by the Owls, Schurfranz came out to record the next two kills for KSU, logging six of her 10 kills in the third set, to give the Owls set point 24-22. The Bisons refused to go away though fighting off three set points and recording five of the final six points to rally for the 27-25 set win.

NOTES
- The Owls hit a season-low .083 in the match, marking just the second time in the last four years KSU has hit below .100. KSU's 27 errors were two shy of its season-high, a mark set in the Owls' five-set season-opener.
- It was only the third time this season a team has hit above .200 against KSU.
- Karlee Groover recorded a season-high 18 digs.
- Claire Parsons led the team hitting .357 in the match, her sixth match this year hitting .350 or better.
- Lauren Chastang failed to record 10 or more kills for the first time this season.

UP NEXT
The Owls will look to flip the script Saturday night in their regular season finale against Lipscomb at 7 p.m. ET.
