CONWAY, S.C. – The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team could not slow down the formidable Chanticleer attack Sunday afternoon as Coastal Carolina pulled away in the second half to down KSU 20-7.

How it happened:Â Marissa Gore got the game rolling for the Owls (6-8, 1-2) with the opening goal just over two minutes in. The Chanticleers (10-4, 4-2) responded with a goal shortly afterwards, before netting three straight in just over a minute to take a 4-1 lead with 17:42 left in the half.

Coastal Carolina added one more goal before
Haley Swift finally ended the run.
Anna Giulitto pulled KSU back into it with back-to-back goals less than 30 seconds apart to make it 5-4 at the 12:49 mark.Â

The lead stayed at one goal as
Siena Gore and
Abby Squires answered two straight goals from the Chanticleers with goals of their own to keep the Owls on the heels of Coastal Carolina 7-6 with 8:41 still to play. Coastal Carolina pushed the tempo in the final minutes, ending the half on a 4-0 run, scoring the final goal just 40 seconds before the buzzer, to take an 11-6 lead into the locker room.

Coastal Carolina kept its momentum rolling into the second half, scoring back-to-back goals within 30 seconds to extend its lead to 13-6 at the 27:40 mark. The Chanticleers then clamped down defensively, allowing only seven shots on goal while making six saves and forcing seven turnovers in the second half.

Coastal Carolina extended its lead to as high as 20-6 while keeping KSU off the board for 25 minutes.
Siena Gore finally broke through for the Owls, scoring with 4:52 left to earn the final score. The Chanticleers finished the game with 30 shots on goal, compared to 16 for the Owls.

Notes: Anna Giulitto finished with two goals scored to mark her fifth game out of the last six with at least two goals … Giulitto logged three points in the game, recording her 10th assist of the season …
Siena Gore snapped her five-game hat trick streak with two goals against the Chanticleers …
Izzy Palermo recorded her first assist of the season … KSU shot 28 percent for the game, marking only the second time this year the Owls shot below 30 percent …
Alex Bunn logged 10 saves on the day, her eighth double-digit save performance of the year … Bunn also scooped up a career-high five ground balls …
