NASHVILLE – Kennesaw State baseball fell in its final game of the weekend against Lipscomb 13-1 at Dugan Field.
KSU tallied 10 hits, but a season-high 15 runners left on base proved too much for the Owls to overcome.
The Owls struggled to get runners across early, and fell behind 5-0 after four innings. Through the first four frames, Kennesaw State left eight runners on base.
The Bisons struck first in the second inning, plating four runs. The Bisons followed with a solo home run in the fifth inning to push the lead to five.
KSU loaded the bases for a second time in the fifth inning after a leadoff double from
Terence Norman, a walk drawn by
Justin Russell and single to the short stop from
Jaylen Smith. With two outs,
Daniel Seres drew a walk to push across the Owls first run of the game.
Lipscomb extended its lead to 9-1 at the conclusion five frames after posting four runs in the fifth inning. The Owls loaded the bases for the third time of the game in the sixth inning, could not put a dent in the Bisons' lead. Through six times through the order, the Owls had stranded 14 base runners.
The Bisons tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and plated their final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth to push the Lipscomb advantage to 13-1.
Ryan Smith recorded his second RBI of the season in the top of the ninth inning with a single to plate Russell for the final run of the contest.
Carballo and Norman each recorded a multi-hit game for the Owls while
Monty Horn gave up his first earned runs of the season out of the bullpen.
The Owls shift their focus to No. 4 Georgia, who the Owls host at Stillwell Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
