KENNESAW, Ga.- After finding themselves down by three runs in the sixth inning, the Owls cut the deficit to one but came up just short, 7-6, against No. 4 Georgia in front of a raucous 1,402 fans at Stillwell Stadium on Wednesday (April 3) night.
After both teams were scoreless in the first inning, Georgia put up four runs in the second inning for a quick 4-0 lead. However, the Owls were not phased as KSU trimmed the lead to 4-3 after the first three innings.
With the bases loaded in the third frame
Garrett Hodges drew a walk for the Owls' first run of the ballgame.
Tyler Simon brought home a pair of runs during the ensuing at-bat with a single through the left side that cut the lead to 4-3.
The Owls tied the ballgame in the fourth frame after
Jake Franklin hit a rocket through the left side to bring home
Jaylen Smith.
The Bulldogs retook the lead in the fifth inning with an RBI double to left field. Georgia tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to push the lead to 7-4.
KSU battled all night long and Franklin drove in his second run of the game in the sixth inning with an RBI single to right field to plate
Alex Carballo. The Owls scored their final run of the game in the eighth inning when Carballo scored on a wild pitch.
Josh Coburn started on the bump for the Owls and pitched 4.0 innings, yielding two earned runs while punching out two bulldogs.

Cooper Mayhall each saw work out of the bullpen. The bullpen pitched five innings without giving up an earned run.
The Owls play host to UNCW for a non-conference series this weekend.
