NASHVILLE – The Owls fell short 4-3 against Lipscomb on Saturday (March 30) afternoon to drop game two of the three game set.
After both teams were blanked in the first frame, Kennesaw State struck first in the second inning after
Jaylen Smith singled to center field to bring home
Tyler Simon, who reached on a single to the shortstop. The Owls eventually loaded the bases with two outs, but all three runners were left aboard.
After the Owls stranded a trio of runners in the top of the frame, the Bisons tied up the game in the third inning with a sacrifice fly.
Both pitcher's settled in early in the contest, but Lipscomb pitcher Noah Thompson's day was interrupted by
Justin Russell launching a ball over the fence for the second time this series. The dinger gave Kennesaw State a 2-1 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth.
Lipscomb answered again in the fifth inning with an RBI single to knot the score at two.
Both teams remained scoreless until the seventh inning when the Bisons took a one-run lead.
Brooks Buckler worked himself out a jam with a runner on third and one out and did not allow the Bisons to extend the lead further.
With a runner on and two outs in the eighth inning,
Tyler Tolve pinch hit and singled to score
Garrett Hodges to knot the game at three. Once again, Lipscomb answered in the bottom of the inning and took the 4-3 lead.
Brooks Buckler turned in another solid performance on the mound, tossing 7.0 innings yielding just two earned runs and five hits.
The Owls got two runners on base in the ninth inning, but could not push any runs across.
Russell and Simon ended with the Owls' only two multi-hit games.
The Owls look to avoid the sweep tomorrow at 2 p.m.
