NASHVILLE – Kennesaw State dropped its first ASUN contest on Friday (March 29) against Lipscomb 6-3 in Nashville, Tenn.
The Bisons got out to an early lead in the contest after scoring a pair of runs in the first and third innings of the ballgame. After three innings, the Owls found themselves without a hit and in the hole, 4-0.
Justin Russell continued to take advantage of the designated hitter hole, launching a home run in the fourth inning for the Owls first run of the game.
The Bisons answered with two runs in the fourth inning to push the advantage to 6-1.
After a leadoff double off the bat of
Tyler Tolve in the fifth inning and a walk drawn by
Alex Carballo, the Owls put two base runners on with no outs. With one out in the frame,
Jake Franklin hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Tolve after he advanced on a ground ball by
David Chabut.
The Owls continued to chip away at the Bisons' lead after
Terence Norman led off the eighth inning with a single to center field.
Garrett Hodges followed with a double before
Tyler Simon brought home Norman with a ground out. The three run deficient was the closest that Owls would get – as KSU fell 6-3 to Lipscomb.
Ryan Kennedy started for the Owls and tossed 3.1 innings, yielding six runs.
Monty Horn,
Deviner McCray and
Nathan Dupree combined to shut out the Bisons for the remainder of the contest.
Norman, Hodges, Simon, Russell, Tolve and Carballo each recorded a hit in the contest.
The Owls look to bounce back tomorrow at 1 p.m. (EST) in Nashville.
