KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls' six-game skid came to a screeching halt on Tuesday (March 12) afternoon as KSU exploded for 13 runs in a 13-5 win over Presbyterian.
The Owls jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after an RBI double from A.J. Willoughby and an RBI single off of the bat of
Daniel Seres. The Blue Hose tied the game in the top of the second inning, which proved to be the last time the score was knotted.
After
Terence Norman doubled to score
Alex Carballo in the third inning,
Jake Franklin launched his first home run of the season to plate two more runs and give Kennesaw State a 5-2 lead after three innings. Presbyterian scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to come within one score.
The Owls exploded for three runs in the fourth inning after
Ryan Smith recorded an RBI with a groundout to the short stop, Carballo plated
David Chabut with a double and Norman singled for his second RBI of the contest.
After PC plated a single run in the sixth frame,
Justin Russell rocketed a ball to right field for a sacrifice fly to give the Owls a 11-5 lead. The Owls were not done there in the sixth – as Willoughby singled to right center to score Franklin which gave the Owls a new season-high for runs (12).
Franklin plated the final run of the game in the seventh inning with a single to the first baseman to push Seres across the plate.
Norman, Franklin and Willoughby all recorded three hits in the game, while
Brendan Bickleman earned his first win of his career on the bump. Luke Tobert,
Deviner McCray and
Brian Exley each saw time out of the pen and gave up just three combined hits.
The Owls look to complete the midweek sweep tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Stillwell Stadium.
