KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls' offense exploded for 11 runs on 10 hits to win the series against Towson on Sunday (Feb. 24) 11-5 inside Stillwell Stadium.
Highlighting the offense was
Garrett Hodges, who finished 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs and a double.
David Chabut also recorded a trio of hits on four at-bats and drove in one run.
After Towson recorded the first run of the game in the opening frame, Kennesaw State plated six runs in the second inning to jump out to a commanding lead.
Jaylen Smith led off with a double down the left field line before
Terence Norman plated Smith with a base hit. After Chabut brought home Norman on a single,
Alex Carballo brought home
Nick Colina on a single up the middle.
The Owls were not done scoring in the second, as Chabut stole home to give the Owls a 4-1 advantage. With Carballo on third, Hodges launched his first home run of the day to extend the KSU lead to 6-1 at the end of the second.
Tyler Simon brought home Chabut in the fourth inning before Hodges sent a missile over the right field wall to push the lead to 10-2.
Towson scored in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to cut the lead to 10-5, but Norman launched a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to score Hodges and plate the final run of the game.
Josh Coburn put together another solid performance on the mound, going 5.0 innings, giving up just one unearned run and striking out four.
