LYNCHBURG, Va. – Becky Contreras launched the golden goal to propel Kennesaw State University over league leader Liberty University Sunday in a 1-0 overtime victory at Osborne Stadium.
"I'm so proud of our team today. That's a huge three points against a very good team," said Head Coach Benji Walton. "I was pleased with how our team approached this challenge and hopefully this will help us grow into our next challenge."
The Owls (8-7-0, 3-3-0 ASUN Conference) picked up the win when Erin Harris assisted Contreras at 93:44. The goal was the freshman's fourth of the fall.
It was a breakthrough moment for Contreras, who played in 92 minutes, and had a team-high four shots and three on-target.
Tiffany Sornpao was a brick wall with a fantastic nine saves against the Flames (8-6-2, 4-2-0), who had 10 on-goal.
While Contreras gained the team lead with her fourth goal, Harris added to her KSU-high in assists with her sixth.
The Owls return home for an important ASUN match on Sunday, Oct. 20 vs. NJIT.
