KENNESAW, Ga. – Carly Pressgrove, with an assist by Kendall Hart, scored the only goal of the game with five minutes before the half to lead Kennesaw State University to a 1-0 triumph over NJIT at Fifth Third Bank Stadium Sunday.
The Owls (9-7-0, 4-3-0) started off strong with nine shots and three shots on-goal in the first half. Erin Harris, Emely Sosa and Morgan Harrison each took two shots with Harris shooting both on-goal. Pressgrove's header came I the 41st minute off a Hart free kick.
Both teams played aggressive with KSU totaling 13 fouls and NJIT totaling 10 fouls. A few casualties included Pressgrove missing time in the first half after a strong blow to her nose.
Tiffany Sornpao saved all three shots on goal taken from NJIT.
Becky Contreras came out strong in the second half and totaled three shots with two on goal.
The Highlanders' (5-6-3, 2-3-1) goalie, Molly Saylor, protected the goal and stopped five shots from the Owls.
The Owls return for the last regular season game at Fifth Third Bank Stadium Friday, Oct. 25 vs. North Alabama. The 7 p.m. kickoff is preceded by a Senior Night Ceremony.
